Source one analysis

In one of my sources, I analyzed examples of texts from medical journals. In the medical field, scientists often take the results they have found from research, and put it into terms that the public can understand. A lot of medical articles are found in magazines like the Los Angeles Times. Medical writing contains knowledge and facts from a lot of different fields. Medical writing has to be very accurate and has to translate into terms that an every day person can understand.

Assignment One

The purpose of assignment one is to inform high school students about the field they might want to go into. I will conduct two-three interviews of professionals in a particular field. These interviews will be designed to find out the writing styles that professionals in my field use. The interviews will also give me more information on the discipline that interests me. I will also find academic and non-academic resources to use for my writing piece, and understand how to incorporate these sources into my own writing. This piece of writing is an informational report.

Analysis

In Enlgish 101 we were assigned a research paper. We could pick any topic that we would like, but it had to be something personal that we could relate to. I decided to write about beauty pageants and the affects pageants can have on young girls that could carry on through out their lifetime. Beauty pageants were a big part of my life for a very long period of time, and even though I enjoyed them at one point in my life, they had a negative affect on my self esteem. Since I could relate to my topic on such a personal level, it was an easy essay to write and conduct further research on. I feel like it is important to be able to connect to the topic you are writing about because it makes the piece more enjoyable for the reader.
I wish I would have been a better researcher. Even though I had personal experience with my topic, I obviously didnt know everything about it. At points in my essay, you could tell that I was at a loss for what to write because I didnt know what to do with the information that I had researched. In English 102, I hope to be able to expand on my researching skills to develop a more educational piece of writing.
